Simon Kelly

Since 1992 Dr Simon Kelly has been actively involved in studies on food authenticity, nutrition, biomarkers of intake and environmental research using Stable Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (SIRMS). He has a broad practical experience with a wide range of different SIRMS interfaces (gas chromatography-combustion/pyrolysis, elemental analyser, gas equilibration, multiport and dual inlet) for hydrogen, carbon, oxygen, nitrogen and sulphur isotope analysis. Most recently his research has involved applying multi-element isotopic analyses to determine the geographical origin of food and the source-origin assignment of inorganic and organic atmospheric pollutants. An important aspect of his work is to transfer recently developed isotopic food authenticity tests to enforcement authorities and retailers to protect the interest of consumers and legitimate traders.
